Case Study: Felons Brewery Acoustic Treatment (Stage 1)

Ordio Productions was engaged to deliver a custom acoustic treatment solution for Felons Brewery in Manly, a high-profile hospitality venue designed by ACME Architects of Surry Hills. The brief required both acoustic performance and a seamless visual aesthetic to align with the venue’s natural design palette.

To achieve this, Ordio Productions supplied 188 Quietspace Panels, each 25mm thick, manufactured by Autex and custom-printed with a natural cork texture. The panels, originally sized at 2440mm x 1220mm, were precision-cut down to 1200mm x 1200mm to suit the architectural design intent.

Custom-stained timber battens were then cut and trimmed on-site by the appointed builders to group and border the panels. This bespoke finish delivered a visually continuous, symmetrical layout across the ceiling, contributing both to the venue’s acoustic control and design cohesion.

Installation was carried out exclusively during night hours, with Ordio Productions found a team of A-grade installers to work from 11pm to 9am. This ensured zero disruption to Felons Brewery’s daytime trading. The panels were fixed to the existing slab using a combination of Tech 7 corking adhesive and X41 Acoustic Panel adhesive, ensuring a secure and lasting bond.

The result is a high-performance acoustic ceiling treatment that enhances sound absorption while blending effortlessly into the interior, fulfilling the vision of both the client and the architect.
