Chandler Limited Mini Mixer

The Chandler Limited Mini Mixer is a 16×2 discrete summing mixer featuring 20 amplifiers and 22 custom transformers. It offers vintage-style tone, a full control room section, and is expandable to 32 channels. It requires the PSU-2 power supply with switchable voltage.

Chandler Limited Mini Mixer

The Chandler Limited Mini Mixer combines decades of experience with classic discrete circuitry, drawing inspiration from amplifier designs of the 1960s and 70s that have been reworked for modern studio use. This 16×2 mixer features transformer-balanced channels powered by a newly designed Chandler line amp, adapted from other Chandler products specifically for this unit.

Inside, the Chandler Limited Mini Mixer houses 20 discrete amplifiers and 22 custom-wound transformers, delivering the punch, warmth and tonal character of vintage gear in a format suited to contemporary digital workflows.

Beyond the summing section, the unit includes a comprehensive control room section with talkback, speaker switching, mute, mono, dim, and an external input that can double as an insert point. Separate control room and stereo bus outputs are also provided.

Multiple units can be linked to expand the system to 32 channels or more. The Chandler Limited Mini Mixer requires the Chandler Limited PSU-2 external power supply, which includes an internal voltage selector for 115V or 230V operation.

Chandler Limited Mini Mixer Applications

  • Mixer Gain Structure – To set the correct gain structure, begin by adjusting the input level so the VU meters read an average of 0dB. Then set the control room volume to a comfortable listening level. Once you’re familiar with the standard setup, you can experiment — driving the stereo buss harder or even maxing out the meters can produce pleasing colouration, much like pushing a mic preamp for added character.
  • External Input – Engaging the External Input button disconnects the mix section from the control room, enabling a variety of alternative uses. While it’s commonly used for monitoring CD players or 2-track machines, it also opens the door for more flexible routing options.
  • Stereo Insert Using External Input – Pressing the External button separates the Stereo Buss from the Control Room, allowing the External Input to function as an insert point. Patch the Stereo Output into a mix compressor and return the signal from the compressor to the rear panel External Input. This turns the Stereo Buss volume into a buss fader while the Control Room output becomes your final stereo out with insert capability.
  • Summing Using External Input – For summing duties, press the External button and send a stereo mix from your DAW into the mixer’s External connections. The Control Room section is then isolated for monitoring only, while the Mixer channels and pan controls can be used for summing and fine-tuning your mix.

Chandler Limited Mini Mixer Reviews

Chandler Limited has hit another one out of the park with the 16×2 Mini rack mixer; its great sound is only matched by its capacity to multifunction. This unit nicely marries classic circuit design and vintage sound in a modern package for digital music production. By virtue of its dual purpose — as a DAW monitor/controller with analog summing/mixer and as a source mixer — the Mini belongs in its own category of worthwhile analog signal processors.
The Chandler Mini Rack Mixer will inevitably get compared to all the new summing boxes, but because of its 100% discreet design, Class-A line amps, transformer- balanced I/O-and the resulting sound quality-it has no real competition short of a vintage Neve console. At a street price of around $6K, it’s certainly a lot cheaper than a Neve.
