API 560 Graphic Equaliser

The API 560 is a 10-band graphic EQ based on the original 1960s design, featuring Proportional Q, discrete 2520 op amps, and API’s signature punch. Fast, precise, and musical, it delivers classic analogue tone in a 500 Series format.

API 560 Graphic Equaliser

Originally developed for use in API consoles of the 1960s and 1970s, the API 560 Graphic EQ remains a uniquely capable equaliser, purpose-built to deliver results no other EQ can. With fast, accurate adjustment thanks to detented sliders and ten precision frequency bands, the 560 enables powerful curve shaping that remains unmatched for speed and efficiency. Its updated design improves resolution in the ±4dB range while retaining API’s exclusive circuitry and proprietary components, including the discrete 2520 Op Amp.

The 2520 provides exceptional headroom and maintains consistent analogue performance even with extreme EQ curves. It also excels at driving low-impedance loads, especially when combined with API’s custom output transformers. This results in extended low-frequency response, tighter stereo imaging, and the signature API “punch” that has defined classic American recordings for decades.

The API 560’s 10-band layout makes it ideal for detailed tonal shaping, room tuning, or general signal sweetening. It complements parametric EQs well, incorporating API’s original “Proportional Q” design which automatically adjusts bandwidth,  wider at low boost/cut levels, narrower at higher ones, ensuring musical and predictable results. The boost and cut functions are symmetrical, allowing precise reversibility of EQ moves.

Built for reliability and consistency, the API 560 offers the unmistakable API sound in a compact format compatible with all 500 Series racks and consoles. For those seeking a powerful, musical, and easy-to-use graphic EQ with the heritage of classic analogue sound, the API 560 is a standout choice.
