API 512c Preamplifier

The API 512c is a microphone, line, and instrument preamplifier designed in the popular API 500 Series format. Known for its low noise performance (−129 dBu EIN) and rich, musical tone, it delivers the classic API sound at a more accessible price point.

With up to 65 dB of gain, the 512c includes phantom power, switchable polarity, a −20 dB pad, and a Mic/Instrument-Line switch. Convenient front-panel XLR and 1/4-inch inputs, along with rear-panel mic access, offer flexible connection options when used in an API lunchbox®, 500V rack, or API console.

Faithful to the original designs of API founder Saul Walker, the API 512c uses API’s custom transformers and the iconic 2520 op-amp to achieve its distinct sound. Still hand-assembled, the API 512c is built to the same standards of durability, consistency, and sonic quality that define all API gear, making it a reliable and versatile tool for professional and project studios alike.
