The Gainlab Audio Governor is a dual slope tube optical compressor that combines classic tone with innovative dynamics control, offering flexible levelling, modern optical compression, and Session Recall integration.
The Gainlab Audio Governor is a vacuum tube-based optical compressor designed with a unique dual slope architecture, giving it two threshold points for highly flexible dynamic control.
Drawing from the dynamic processing found in the Bishop All-Tube Channel Strip, The Governor refines and expands this concept into a standalone unit capable of detailed, precise control in both stereo and dual mono modes. Its tube-based transformer output design provides the same tube boost character known from the Empress Equalizer, now enhanced with optional full-spectrum and high-frequency boost modes.
A key innovation is its dual slope compression. The first threshold sets a softer ratio and knee, while the second introduces a steeper curve with higher ratios, enabling multistage-style compression within a single device. This design makes it equally suited to gentle levelling, classic optical compression, or aggressive modern dynamics.
The Gainlab Audio Governor also includes a side-chain filter, external side-chain inputs, and a comprehensive metering system that provides a clearer picture than traditional VU meters, ensuring intuitive setup and accurate feedback.
As with all Gainlab Audio devices, Gainlab Audio Governor integrates seamlessly with Session Recall software, allowing users to save and recall complete device settings for efficient hybrid studio workflows.
