The Retro DOUBLEWIDE II is a two-slot 500 Series tube compressor that combines rugged US build quality with Cinemag transformers for rich, noise-free tone. With faster attack and release options, it delivers everything from smooth, transparent control to bold, characterful compression on vocals, bass, guitars, and drums.
Retro DOUBLEWIDE II Tube Compressor
The Retro DOUBLEWIDE II is a single-channel valve compressor designed to fit into two slots of a standard 500 Series rack while drawing only 130 mA of current, the same as the original Retro DOUBLEWIDE. It carries forward many of the hallmarks of the first version, including the grey painted front panel, the US-made Simpson gain-reduction meter, and meticulous hand wiring with no ribbon cables.
Build quality is evident throughout, from the American-made circuit board to the stainless steel enclosure, and it features Cinemag’s top-grade input and output transformers for authentic analogue tone, solid weight, and immunity from external interference or noise.
User testing confirmed that the Retro DOUBLEWIDE II goes well beyond the original’s performance, offering greater flexibility and control. The addition of faster attack and release settings makes it particularly effective for energising vocals, managing bass, guitar, and drum tracks, and handling a wide range of dynamic tasks.
It can be set for elegant, transparent control or pushed into extreme and characterful compression, giving engineers the freedom to shape dynamics with precision.
