API 512v Discrete Mic/Line Preamplifier

The API 512v is a versatile microphone, line, and instrument preamplifier housed in the API 500 Series format, delivering the signature API sound with extremely low noise performance (–129 dBu EIN). Built around the original circuit designs of API founder Saul Walker, it combines API’s proprietary transformers and the renowned 2520 op-amp for a warm, musical, and detailed sonic character. With up to 65 dB of gain, the API 512v is well-suited for a wide range of studio applications.

This updated version of the classic 512c adds a front panel Variable Output control and a selectable 3:1 output transformer tap, allowing for greater tone-shaping and gain-staging control. Additional features include phantom power, switchable polarity, a −20 dB pad, and a mic/instrument-line selector.

The API 512v also offers flexible connectivity via a front-panel combo XLR/TRS input and a rear-panel mic input, making it ideal for use in an API lunchbox®, the API 500V rack, or an API console.
