The MOTU 848 Thunderbolt 4/USB4 Audio Interface delivers 125 dB dynamic range, ultra low latency of 1.8 ms, and 60 simultaneous channels with advanced routing, mixing, and AVB networking, making it a powerful centrepiece for professional studios.
The MOTU 848 Thunderbolt 4/USB4 Audio Interface is a flagship solution created for professional studios that demand uncompromised audio quality, versatile connectivity, and advanced routing and mixing power. Leveraging decades of MOTU engineering experience, it features ESS Sabre32 digital-to-analogue conversion, delivering a 125 dB dynamic range with exceptionally low distortion for transparent and pristine audio reproduction.
With Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 support, the MOTU 848 achieves data transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps using the supplied 2 metre cable. It maintains compatibility with Thunderbolt 3, USB 3 and USB 2, ensuring seamless operation across modern and legacy systems. Offering up to 256 channels of host I/O at 96 kHz, it is designed to accommodate the heaviest production workloads.
The interface provides 60 simultaneous channels with 28 inputs and 32 outputs available concurrently, giving users the ability to connect microphones, instruments, processors, monitoring systems and other studio hardware without limitation. Its high performance driver ensures round trip latency as low as 1.8 ms at 96 kHz with a 32 sample buffer.
Four transparent microphone preamps deliver outstanding specifications, including -114 dB THD+N, 118 dB dynamic range and -129 dBu EIN. Each offers pad, phantom power and gain adjustment, with channels 3 and 4 featuring inserts for hardware processing or serving as extra balanced line inputs. Monitoring flexibility includes a group controller for up to twelve outputs, three-way speaker selection, and integrated talkback.
The onboard 64 channel mixer operates with 32 bit floating point precision and includes 26 auxiliary buses plus main, reverb, monitor and solo buses. Each channel provides parametric equalisation, compression, high pass filtering and gating. Routing is managed through an intuitive virtual patchbay alongside a matrix style grid for comprehensive visualisation of complex signal flows.
AVB networking is built in, with dual Gigabit Ethernet ports enabling system expansion and ultra low latency audio distribution. Up to 128 channels can be streamed at 96 kHz, with AVB ensuring reliable performance even across long cable runs. CueMix Pro software gives complete control of mixing, routing and effects from macOS, Windows and iOS devices, with support for wireless operation.
Additional features of the MOTU 848 include optical I/O with ADAT, S/MUX and TOSLink support, two independent headphone outputs with selectable mixes, loopback for podcasting and streaming, DC coupled outputs for modular synthesis control, and bundled Performer Lite software with virtual instruments and loops to begin creating immediately.
