The MOTU M2 Audio Interface is a high-quality 2×2 USB-C interface designed for musicians, podcasters, and creators who need professional sound in a compact format. Featuring ESS Sabre32 Ultra™ DAC technology, the M2 delivers pristine audio with a dynamic range of 120 dB on its outputs. It includes two XLR/TRS combo jacks with independent preamp gain, 48V phantom power, and Hi-Z switches for guitars.

The MOTU M2 supports sample rates up to 192 kHz for high-resolution recording. It offers real-time monitoring with a mix knob for zero-latency input monitoring. The interface is equipped with a full-colour LCD for precise metering, dual balanced line outputs, a stereo headphone output, and MIDI I/O for connecting external gear.

While it may not have as many features as other interfaces, such as the Volt 2 or Scarlett 2i2, the Motu’s performance far surpasses them in a variety of ways. For US$200, the M2 offers high-quality recordings with low-latency, incredible preamps, and excellent DAC.

The American company MOTU has created two excellent low-cost products for musicians. For studio work, the M2/M4 has good preamps and ADCs that are better than entry-level units. Also note the good connectivity for both TRS and RCA. The peak meters have finally been corrected and no longer miss short peaks during recording.

With quiet and clear preamps, a good dynamic range, low latency, and very low distortion, the MOTU is a great interface to consider. Whereas it’s contender, the Scarlett 2i2 has some excellent features to make the recording process easier, the MOTU M2 has brilliant alternative benefits. There’s an on/off switch, an extra pair of outputs (for DJ gear), and individual phantom power switches should you need it. Depending on your taste, you may also find the traditional LCD level meters easier to read. It also comes with a sizeable package of software including 6Gb of loops and sounds from Big Fish Audio and Loopmasters. The MOTU M2 is a professional quality audio interface, suitable for the audio engineer, podcaster, live-streamer, or home recordist looking for high end sound.
