Known for one of the most sought-after compression signatures in recording history, the Retro 176 delivers the same musical warmth and dynamic control that made the 1960s design a classic, now with expanded flexibility and precision.
This all-valve variable-mu compressor offers continuously variable attack and release times, along with four selectable ratios ranging from gentle compression at 2:1 to full limiting at 12:1. Added control comes from a wide-range sidechain high-pass filter, a unique Vocal Asymmetry tool, and both hard-wire and interstage transformer bypass options. For reliable operation and recall, the Retro 176 is fitted with precision knob scales and a high-quality VU meter switchable between input, output, and gain reduction.
Connectivity is straightforward with XLR inputs and outputs, an IEC power connector, and selectable 115/230V mains operation. Tube balance testing is built in, and multiple units can be easily strapped for stereo use.
