The API 505-DI is a high-quality direct input module designed to connect instruments such as guitar, bass, or keyboard directly into a professional recording chain without compromising tone. Based on the API 205L console module, the API 505-DI is engineered to minimise loading on high-impedance pickups while providing clean, powerful output. Its Gain control allows instrument signals to be boosted up to a standard +4 dBu line level, eliminating the need for a separate DI box and additional outboard gear.
The API 505-DI includes a TONE control designed to reduce low-end muddiness, while a BRIGHT switch can enhance clarity when needed. These controls work together to shape the instrument’s sound naturally, often removing the need for additional EQ. A 100k/400k LOAD switch is included to subtly influence the pickup response, allowing the user to brighten or soften the top end as desired.
For instruments with onboard preamps or line-level sources such as samplers or keyboards, a 20 dB PAD switch reduces the input level without affecting signal quality. With its streamlined signal path, transformer-balanced output, and flexible tone shaping, the API 505-DI delivers a clean, full-range signal with the renowned API sound.
